Early this year, we got a really good look at the latest update to the Ford SUV lineup, the all-new Ford Explorer. The 2020 Explorer takes the model into its sixth generation. Its new year will also have its broadest model lineup ever.
Ford is adding two new models to the Explorer in the form of the Explorer ST and Explorer Hybrid. With these new additions, buyers will get to choose from six Explorer trims, including the base, XLT, Limited, and Platinum models.
An Explorer For Every Adventure
“This new generation of Explorer recognizes that every family – and every driver – is unique,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford executive vice president, product development and purchasing. “With an all-new ST and an all-new hybrid, there truly is an Explorer for every adventure.”
The Explorer ST will be a performance-oriented SUV. It will be powered by a specially tuned 3.0-liter EcoBoost® engine that is expected to deliver 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. It will offer a top track speed of 143 mph.
As for the new hybrid model, it will have a combined output around 318 horsepower. In addition, it is expected to offer a driving range of more than 500 miles. Neither passenger or cargo space will be affected by its hybrid battery, which is built into the chassis under the second-row seats.
