After a long winter, we can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. If you are experiencing some cabin fever, there are some great winter road trips you can take right here in the Midwest.
Parke County, Indiana
The winter is an ideal time to visit this picturesque county with covered bridges dotting the countryside. Get a map at a local visitors’ center to find all the bridges. Don’t forget to visit the Clabber Girl Museum and Bake Shop in Terre Haute.
Spend a wintery weekend in Chicago and visit all the sites. Go ice skating in Maggie Daley Park. Don’t forget to stop at Millennium Park and check out your reflection in The Bean.
Door County, Wisconsin
This beautiful area is often called the Cape Cod of the Midwest. This is still true when snow is covering the ground. There are plenty of cozy inns, local shops, and belly-warming restaurants to choose from.
If you want to find some warmth, but can’t travel far, visit one of Nebraska’s newest sites, the Lauritzen Gardens. This conservatory features some fantastic tropical displays. You can also visit the Desert Dome at the Henry Doorly Zoo.
